La cirugía , opción para la cura de la diabetes
ByLa clínica Quirón de Zaragoza se ha convertido en un referente en España en el tratamiento de la diabetes tipo 2 a través de cirugía metabólica. De los 42 pacientes operados desde febrero del 2010, un 81% de ellos están totalmente recuperados de la enfermedad, y se espera que en pocos meses se confirme hasta un 90%.
El tratamiento tiene un perfil de paciente aparentemente limitado, con síndrome metabólico, que se restringe a la diabetes del tipo 2, más frecuente en adultos, que producen insulina insuficiente y/o no la procesan, frente al tipo 1, en el que no se produce. También requiere cierto componente de obesidad, una diabetes mal controlada y la existencia de reserva pancreática, es decir, “que el páncreas aún funcione”.
Por otra parte el primer gran estudio realizado en el Reino Unido sobre el impacto de la cirugía contra la gordura afirma que la incidencia de diabetes tipo 2 se redujo en 50% y los pacientes perdieron casi 60% de exceso de peso, un año después de la intervención.
También hubo mejorías en relación a los niveles de presión arterial y la ejecución de tareas cotidianas como subir las escaleras.
Los investigadores alegan que dichas cirugías son “una ganga” en cuanto a los costos asociados con el tratamiento de la obesidad y la diabetes.
Sin embargo , los expertos opinan que no hay que llegar hasta aquí ,el mensaje de los endocrinólogos es que deben adoptarse “acciones nacionales e internacionales de choque” para atajar la pandemia. “La diabetes no es una enfermedad que nos haya caído como un castigo bíblico. Es consecuencia de la forma de vida de los países industrializados y hay que cambiar esa forma de vida porque es posible revertir la situación”, apuntó Soriguer. El trasatlántico puede frenarse y virar el rumbo, pero hay que diseñar estrategias con esa meta.
